From what can be considered as attractive, like a Dandelion, to what what might be considered repulsive, like bread mold, there is more to nature's marvels than what is apparent at a glance. My artwork allows the viewer to take a closer look at the complexity and beauty of nature.
I use glazing in order to create transparency and to obtain effervescent colors. I use abstraction to emphasize the appealing. yet delicate details that make up an object, including texture and contour. When looking at my art you will see different layers of something living, showing you multiple views of the subject. This is to show you that nature is both complex and visibly appealing. Different means of abstraction implemented into these pieces include enlarging, flattening, and making objects transparent. I arrange each piece in order to emphasize specific elements. I am currently working on two different series. One is on microscopic sized natural objects and another is on animals. The animals are unusual, that are not native to the United States. Sometimes the two series intertwine. The Beginnings is the first five paintings that started these two series of work. Though my work is abstract, It is important to me that I pay close attention to keeping contours and textures real to life. The pieces allow the viewer to observe, like a scientist would looking into a microscope the intricacy of nature. My education includes a major in Fine Arts and minor in Biology from Mount Saint Mary's University. I also have a Masters of Education in Visual Arts from Pace University. I currently reside in New York and I am a teacher. |
